SUPPORT A WORTHY BREAST CANCER INITIATIVE FOR INDIGENT WOMEN WITH BREAST CANCER

As part of our on-going commitment to help less fortunate women diagnosed with breast cancer, the Breast and Thyroid Health Centre of Apffelstaedt & Associates would like to invite you to join them in making a difference to women at Tygerberg Hospital’s Breast Clinic. The project involves collecting donations towards transport costs and nutritional support for patients.

The fund, which has historically only been used for transport, will soon be expanded to include providing nutritional support for qualifying patients. This will include providing vouchers that can be redeemed for basic food and sanitary supplies.

About 50 women per month are diagnosed with breast cancer at this Breast Clinic and about 70% of them have a very low income if they have one at all.

Although treatment costs are covered by Government, their transport costs to and from the hospital for regular radiotherapy sessions often become a barrier to entry.

Radiotherapy lasts for 16 or 25 days and at an average cost of R50 per person per day for transport, this can equate to a large financial burden – especially for a low-income household. About 240 women will require between R800 and R1250 each for transport to get to their radiation treatments. The fund, which has historically only been used for transport, will soon be expanded to include providing nutritional support for qualifying patients. This will include providing vouchers that can be redeemed for basic food and sanitary supplies.

We would like to invite you to join us in making a difference.

If you would like to make a contribution to sustain this project, please make a donation to the Stellenbosch Foundation Account (PBO no: 930009757) either via electronic transfer or a bank deposit.
